Do not use baby oil. It is hard to wash off and has a lingering odor. My experience has been with extra virgin olive oil. There is no odor and very easy to wash off. To add even more excitement to the experience, take a few minutes to warm the oil. Having the warm oil poured over your body and then wrestling is beyond my words to describe. And yes, I have done this several times.
I find this is very good though not particularly cheap :
Melrose Water DISPERSIBLE Massage Oil H2Oil with Twist Cap and Free Pump: Easy Wash & Suitable for All Skin Types
Get mine from amazon though does go out of stock from time to time
No to olive oil-if NO gear is involved might be ok-I wrestled with olive oil in tiny briefs-had to toss away-smell never came out of them! Baby oil is my massage oil I use AND wrestling!
I’ve found Mineral Oil has worked best for me. No smell, stays oily and it’s easy to wash off and doesn’t linger after. If it gets on gear it doesn’t stain.
I have used yes
Also use baby oil
NEVER use olive oil-the stench never comes out of gear NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES U WASH IT-tossed out many an olive oil soaked jock/briefs
I used to when I first started wrestling but when I couldn’t get the smell out of my brief/bikinis I said F it and always nude for ALL MATCHES!! Wanna wrestle? 🤪
Thanks to all for the varied and helpful suggestions - plenty oils to use for wrestling in that are safer and easier to clean up after than others....agree about petroleum based prods but sometimes you get a challenge and if you accept it have to wrestle in some kinds of oil you might prefer not to - like old motor oil! anyone else wrestled in old motor oil?
At the Open Gym event in Claymont Delaware this coming Saturday (September 11th) the last hour will be group nude oil wrestling. (4pm to 5pm) we are using olive oil. So if in the Delaware tri-state area, its time to put-up....
Triple filtered Trader Joe's coconut oil. None better. Remains liquid with body heat (have to preheat in microwave or otherwise), never tacky, minimal odor, and rinses cleanly with body wash and any towels in basic laundry detergent.
Personal favorite is olive oil. Nice lasting quality, good distribution over skin, never sticky, slowly absorbs so if the match is lengthy, there is little to no clean up.
Definitely the cleaning up and washing off afterwards are major factors in choosing the right oil. As mentioned, olive oil and, perhaps, coconut oil are best. Plant based oils disperse better?
First when I wrestle with oil, it's nude.
I use Olive oil, but it smells a little, or sunflower oil. Sunflower oil doesn't smell. Sunflower oil is better for cleaning your skin.
Prefer bio-based oils.
These two oils are alimentary oils, so there is no problem if you swallow some during the match.
No petroleum based products like baby oil. Hard to clean up, stings the eyes and tastes terrible.
Natural olive or cooking oils would be better though I’ve only had limited experience with olive oil.
