Older Fighters are the Best

Frustrated!

The biggest problem of being older on this site is the prejudice and lies that you get. Two things come up: 1) why add a temporary location to your profile if you have no intention of meeting up with someone at that location? 2) Why lie..example one who I asked about wrestling when he came to Vegas (here now) said that at 188 I was too heavy a she does not want to wrestle anyone over 185 but his profile shows wrestlers with weights of 190,186,188,190,220,205,200,205,220,190..Does he think that I will not notice his lies and bigotry?

I agree. Wrestling is like riding a bike, once you learn how to do it, you'll always do it. No matter your age.

I have wrestled a couple hundred guys. "Old" is not really a fair way to categorize/classify wrestlers. I have wrestled some guys in their 70's that could destroy some guys in their 20's and 30's. Obviously it is about health and fitness. I have wrestled guys under 40 with disabilities. They are NOT old, but may not be able to battle as intensely as someone in better health that is over 70. I wouldn't worry about how old I am, but I would tell new opponents what to expect. The age thing is really just a number. If you want to win, you need to learn a little offense. If you just want to wrestle, defense and cardio is all you really need. No offense to anyone but I don't consider anybody on these sites old until they are maybe mid 80's. And They still might be good wrestlers. Some of the Gracie's wrestled into their 80's and 90's

Thank you DC. Ditto from Bighouse!
Age is just a number - I’m 64 and some of my friends would rather put me in a home. I told them, You want to see Old? You being looking at the ceiling!

Hi Bighouse, and I don't think you are old. I am and will be 64 soon, and I don't feel my age. I feel like I am in my fifties yet and love to wrestle, so I am young at heart, and wrestling makes me feel great!

our choices are to quit, or pick on guys our own age, or do our best to make some small improvements, or just admit we aren't what.we were and enjoy the ride anyway...aging bravely is not for the faint of heart!

I do not feel old! My age has nothing to do with my decision to wrestle or not to wrestle. As long as my wrestling buddy treats me safe and sane, I’m all for matching up! Age is having a good attitude and young at heart; my age is just a number!

I started to wrestle late in life, but only for the fun it brings, and also a great way to make friends too. It is also a great way to meet guys who just want to have fun like you. To me there is no winning or losing. Just a great time with your buddies!

I have wrestled periodically through the years and always held my own. I still have a fire in me to scrap. I know moves in my head, but the last couple of years I keep getting my ass kicked. My body just doesn’t move like it did. If I have in mind to go for a double leg takedown, my knees just don’t bend. It limits my attack so I’m always on defense or on my back. My biggest fear always is that I won’t give my opponent a good match. I wish I were the one doing the ass kicking, but I’m not. It is so frustrating!

OlderDesire. At 70 you are not necessarily too old for some coaching. You might be using poor technique/form. If you go to gatherings, ask some people to watch you do the moves that used to work. Or ask for some easy take downs. If you execute properly, there has to be some moves that work on little guys, other old guys or jobbers. Even you tube has videos.

I know how you feel. I am looking forward to my first match in November with an experienced wrestler. Getting older can take a toll on us older wrestlers; I’ve started working out to get fit and stay fit. For right now I am doing light wrestling until such time I can ratch it up. I open my door to you if you need wrestling buddy.
